Armory 1:48 F-14A/F-14B Tomcat wheels, early type, weighted — a resin replacement for the landing gear wheels with realistically flattened tires for the famous carrier fighter of the US Navy.
Responsibility details are not available.
This add-on set from the manufacturer Armory replaces the landing gear wheels from an ordinary kit with castings in resin. These are the early type of wheels, matching the F-14A and F-14B versions. The tires are formed with a flattening from loading, so once the model has settled on its landing gear it looks naturally heavy — exactly like a real machine standing on the deck of an aircraft carrier. The resin casting at the same time offers a sharper drawing of the hubs and valves than injection-molded plastic allows.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was a carrier fighter of the US Navy with a variable-geometry wing. It entered service in the middle of the 1970s and its main task was the defense of carrier groups; its typical armament included the long-range AIM-54 Phoenix guided missiles. The F-14B version differed from the original F-14A above all in its more powerful engines, but the landing gear and the early type of wheels were common to both machines.
Separate the castings from the casting blocks with a fine modeling saw, clean the cut up with abrasive paper and wash the parts in warm water with detergent so that the paint holds well. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). A circular masking template will make the transition between hub and tire easier; the tires look more faithful in a dark gray shade than in pure black.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base kit of the aircraft is not included in the package.
