Photo-etched steel seat belts for a model of the F-14D Tomcat in 1:48 scale. They replace the flat belts molded onto the plastic seat.

A set of photo-etched seat belts for the cockpit of an F-14D model in 1:48 scale. According to the name the material is steel, and the production method follows from its place among the photo-etched parts. The belts replace the plastic rendering from the kit, which tends to be molded in one piece with the seat and reads as a flat relief.
The cockpit is the most closely examined place on an aircraft model. A plastic belt has neither thickness nor drape, it lies on the seat like a decal, and the buckles on it are suggested only by a shallow impression. A photo-etched part, by contrast, is thin, can be bent over the edge of the seat and left to hang loosely to one side, so the cockpit looks lived in even with the canopy closed.
The parts are held on the carrier fret by thin tabs. Separate them with a sharp blade on a firm surface and never break them out, or they will twist. Steel is springier than the softer photo-etch materials, so it holds its shape, but the fold has to be made precisely: help yourself with flat-jawed tweezers or a bending tool and press the fold fully home. The belts are glued to the model with a drop of cyanoacrylate applied on a pin. If the parts have no surface finish, degrease them first and lay down a primer, as paint will not hold on smooth metal otherwise.
The package holds photo-etched parts only. The model, the seats, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
