An open cockpit is the first place a viewer looks, and the seat belts in it play a bigger part than their size would suggest. In kits they tend to be suggested only as a relief on the shell of the seat, or to be missing altogether. Photo-etched belts have a thickness that matches the scale, can be folded over the edge of the seat and left hanging loose into the cockpit, so the seat stops looking like a single solid lump.
These are photo-etched parts, as their place among the photo-etched accessories also shows. The designation in the name refers to steel as the material of the belts. Photo-etched steel holds its shape once bent, so a belt stays where you put it and does not try to straighten out again. The set is intended for a model of the F-14D in 1:48 scale; the aircraft has a crew of two, so there are two seats in the cockpit. The extent of the fret and the layout of the individual parts are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and do not tear them out, or the end of the belt will twist. Before bending, grip the part with flat tweezers and make the fold over an edge rather than in your fingers. Adjust the shape of the belt so that it follows the seat and hangs naturally, with no sharp kinks. It is glued with a drop of cyanoacrylate applied on a pin. Before painting, wash and degrease the surface, otherwise paint will not hold on metal. The specific sequence and the recommended shades are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
