About product

F-15D Eagle, resin cockpit set 1:48, early version (Aires)

An accessory for building a model of the two-seat version of the heavy jet fighter in 1:48 scale. The set replaces the cockpit interior with a resin casting with a detailed tub, instrument panels and seats. The early-version designation refers to the older arrangement of the instrumentation, which changed over the service life of the type. It is not a model of the aircraft; the base kit is not included in the package.

What the set is for

A two-seat cockpit is the most exposed part of the model: it is long, entirely under the glazing, and the viewer sees into it even with the canopy closed. Injection-molded plastic usually handles the instrument panels with a flat molding and a decal, whereas a resin casting carries raised definition of the instruments, the consoles and the levers. The choice of the early version matters here: the instrumentation of this type changed over time, and an incorrect panel arrangement is easily spotted on a finished model.

Usage and painting tips

Count on having to seat the tub into the fuselage and remove material from the inner walls: proceed in thin layers and keep dry-fitting the joint. Wash the mold release agent off the castings and cut the casting blocks away with a razor saw, carefully where the walls are thin. Paint the interior in full before closing the fuselage: a base shade, a wash in the recesses, a dry brush on the edges and finally small color accents on the switches. Add belts to both seats so that the space does not look empty. Mask the glazing only once the interior is finished.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of two-seat versions in 1:48 scale who want a faithful interior
  • Modelers building a machine from the early service period of the type
  • Anyone interested in detail visible even under a closed canopy
  • More experienced modelers used to modifying the fuselage and working with resin

This is an accessory for building a model, not a standalone kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It refers to the older arrangement of the cockpit instrumentation. That changed over the service life of the type, so later machines looked different inside.

No. It is an accessory that replaces the cockpit interior of a model under construction. The base kit has to be obtained separately.

The set is intended for the two-seat version, but the exact make-up of the package is not stated here; check it in the enclosed instructions.

As a rule yes. Material is removed from the inner walls so that the fuselage halves close without pressure once the tub is in place.
