A pre-cut masking set for a model of the two-seat F-16D Block 30/40/50 in 1:48 scale. The masks are stuck onto the clear part and onto the areas that are to stay free of paint while spraying, and once dry they are taken off again. EXPERT is the highest level that New Ware lists in this range - it is meant for modelers who want to mask even what an ordinary set does not deal with. The cutouts match the parts of the Kinetic K48105 kit, with which the set is used; with another manufacturer the shapes differ.
The difference tells mainly in the small things. The more areas are masked by a pre-cut item, the fewer you have to handle with tape trimmed on the fly - and it is precisely with those small, irregular shapes that most botched edges arise. If you are building a model with careful gradation of shades and with a patina, a higher level is worth it.
The surface must be clean and degreased. Press a mask down around its whole perimeter, not in the middle. Spray several thin layers, not one heavy one - paint creeping under is almost always down to too wet a coat. Take the masks off with tweezers with a pull at an angle, not straight up, and rather sooner than after several days, when the paint has cross-linked and can tear at an edge.
The set is cut for a particular kit of the type in question. The paints, the varnish and the model are not included in the package.
