MiG-29 Heroes of Kosciuszko New paint scheme part 2, 1:48

This is a decal sheet for a MiG-29 model in 1:48 scale, aimed at the special commemorative finish that Polish machines carried. According to the name it is the second part of a series for this scheme. There are no parts or kit in the package, only markings for a finished model. Check the scope of the sheet against the illustration on the packaging.

A special scheme on an ordinary type

The MiG-29 is a twin-engined fourth-generation fighter with markedly offset air intakes and twin fins. For most of its life it wears standard camouflage, but commemorative finishes turn it into an entirely different model: an area of color runs across the whole airframe and the markings make up a substantial part of the final look. That is exactly why on such a model it pays to give the decals more time than usual, because they carry the main artwork.

When the decals carry the whole look

With extensive motifs it is crucial that the surface be smooth and uniformly glossy. Apply the gloss varnish in thin layers and let it cure thoroughly. Transfer large decals onto a well-dampened area and keep a soft brush and a paper tissue at hand for blotting the water out from under the film, otherwise bubbles will be left. On large areas apply the softener gradually from the center toward the edges. Once everything is dry, rinse the adhesive off and decide on the final overcoat: commemorative finishes tend to be smooth, so a semi-matte varnish usually suits better than a deeply matte one.
