A colored cockpit interior 3D decal in 1:48 scale from Quinta Studio. This is not an airplane model but a set of embossed color decals for detailing the cockpit of the Kinetic injection-molded kit of the two-seat F-16D Block 40 (the newer 2022 tool). It is the more compact version of the set, focused on the main parts of the cockpit. The set is made specifically for the Block 40 version, which differs from the Block 50 variant.
A 3D decal is a thin embossed decal printed in color and with relief. After a dip in lukewarm water it slides off the backing paper and replaces both laborious painting and photo-etched parts. It gives the front and rear cockpit faithful colors, displays, switches and belts in a single step. The detail stays three-dimensional and legible even under a magnifier.
Degrease the surface and coat it with gloss varnish (Future/Klear, Tamiya X-22); a matte base is a mistake. Cut the part out, soak it in lukewarm water for about 15 seconds and slide it off the paper; it has no adhesive layer of its own, so on a broken-up surface a drop of super glue helps. Do not use a decal softener or a setting solution, Quinta Studio forbids them: their chemistry attacks the printed resin and ruins the part.
