A photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:48 scale. A detail set for sharpening a model of the American carrier-based multi-role F/A-18C Hornet. The parts are etched from thin metal sheet and serve to replace and add the fine detail that injected plastic cannot capture faithfully. The set is an aftermarket accessory, not a model in its own right - it is added to the matching plastic kit of the aircraft.
The F/A-18 Hornet is an American carrier-based multi-role combat aircraft able to fly both fighter and attack missions. The single-seat F/A-18C version was one of the main production variants flown from carriers and from land bases. The aircraft is notable for its two engines and two canted vertical tails.
The photo-etched parts are separated with a sharp knife on a cutting surface and bent with a bender or between two rulers. They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate) or a small amount of epoxy. The cockpit with its modern instrument panel and the landing gear bays are rewarding places for photo-etching on the Hornet. Degrease the parts before painting; metal holds paint better once a primer has been applied.
