A set of photo-etched parts in 1:48 scale for the interior fit-out of a model of the F/A-18E carrier aircraft. Thin metal replaces the simplified plastic parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F/A-18E is an American twin-engine carrier multirole aircraft, the single-seat version of the enlarged Hornet; the two-seat form carries the designation F. Compared with the older machine it has a longer fuselage, a larger wing area and angular air intakes, so it carries more fuel and more external stores. Operation from the deck of an aircraft carrier can be recognized on the model by the folding wings, the strengthened landing gear and the arrestor hook. The cockpit is clearly visible under the large one-piece canopy, and that is exactly why it is worth working on.
These are parts etched from thin metal sheet; the name limits them to the interior fit-out. Photo-etching can be as thin as the scale would call for, which cannot be achieved with injection-molded plastic. In the cockpit this shows on the flat panels, the straps and the thin walls, which in plastic are necessarily thicker than they should be. The extent of the parts and their placement on the model are given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and level the remnant of the tab with a fine file. Make the bend over a straight edge or in a bending tool in one movement; bending back and forth will crack the sheet. You join metal with cyanoacrylate glue, and with epoxy on larger areas; cement for polystyrene will not hold on it. Assemble and paint the cockpit before you glue the fuselage halves together, as afterwards there is no way inside. Before painting, wash the sheet, degrease it and lay a base coat underneath.
The kit, the paints and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
