This is a classic injection-molded plastic kit of the single-seat Hawker Hurricane fighter in the Mk.I version, in 1:48 scale from Italeri. Accessories from other brands, such as masks, photo-etched sets or instrument panels, are made under the same name. Here it is the aircraft model itself, the basis on which you can build further. The scope of the build, the number of parts and the contents of the decal sheet are given in the instructions enclosed in the box.
The Hurricane Mk.I was a British single-engine fighter with a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine. In design it followed the older school: a fuselage of metal tube framing covered with fabric, to which a thicker wing with eight 7.7 mm machine guns was attached. The early batches flew with a two-blade wooden propeller and fabric-covered wings; the later ones received metal-skinned wings and a variable-pitch three-blade propeller. It was precisely the rugged and easily repaired structure that made the Hurricane a dependable weapon in the years from 1939 to 1941; in numbers it formed the backbone of the British fighter defense and carried a large part of the combat load. The type also served with other users and in tropical fits.
Before gluing, dry-fit the fuselage halves and sand down any mold marks. The cockpit interior of the Hurricane is clearly visible through the sliding canopy, so it pays to paint it and highlight it lightly before you close up the fuselage. Use thin cement on the plastic, applied with a small brush into the seam: capillary action will create a strong joint with no overflow. Apply a primer before painting, as it reveals any unrepaired seams. The two-color upper camouflage can be divided with an airbrush and a soft transition, but on machines of this period the boundary was usually rather hard; masking with a compound raised above the surface helps. Apply the decals over a gloss base and finally unify everything with a matte varnish.
