This item is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory for building one. Red Fox Studio makes three-dimensional (3D) decals which take the place of the flat decals of the instrument panels and interior panels of a plastic model. The elements have real depth, so once stuck down the instrument panel looks plastic even in sharp light and needs no laborious hand painting of small dials. The set is cut for the F-35B kit of the Kitty Hawk brand. The manufacturer also makes a set of the same designation for the Italeri kit, so check before buying which kit you are building.
The F-35B Lightning II is the variant of the fifth-generation combat aircraft adapted for a short takeoff and a vertical landing. Behind the cockpit it has a lift fan driven by a shaft from the engine and a swiveling exhaust nozzle, so it can operate from short strips and from the decks of multi-purpose amphibious assault ships. The cockpit is built around a large-area touchscreen and therefore looks markedly different from that of older jet aircraft. It is precisely this difference that shows on a model at first glance, and the set deals with it.
The individual elements are cut out piece by piece and placed directly on the cockpit parts. The procedure differs from that for classic wet decals, so go by the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer. Keep the surfaces under the elements smooth and matte, ideally sprayed over with a base color. Work with a sharp scalpel and tweezers, press the element down with a cotton swab and leave it to dry undisturbed. Finish the interior before you close the fuselage up, because afterwards the cockpit can no longer be reached.
It is an accessory for a kit, not a model of the aircraft. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
