This is a set of self-adhesive masking stencils in 1:48 scale meant for a model of the F-4B Phantom II aircraft. It is not a kit or a spare part for one, but an accessory that makes spraying the cockpit frames and other surfaces easier. At Eduard the designation TFace means that the set deals with the glazing from both sides, so the frames stay clean when looking into the cockpit as well. The masks are cut from a thin film, which does away with the lengthy shaping of masking tape by hand.
The F-4B was the first widely built carrier-borne version of the two-seat supersonic McDonnell Phantom II. It served with the US Navy and the US Marine Corps from the beginning of the 1960s. The aircraft was driven by two jet engines with afterburners and in its original configuration it carried an armament of guided missiles. Its typical recognition features are the upturned wing tips, the horizontal tail surfaces angled downward and the massive nose section with radar.
Stick the masks onto a degreased and perfectly dry surface, best of all with tweezers with smooth jaws. Press the edges down carefully with a toothpick, so that no paint seeps under them. Spraying the interior shade of the frames first and only then the outer color works well. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has set, because once it has fully cured there is a risk that the edge of the sprayed finish will peel away with it. A soft cloth dampened with alcohol will remove any remains of the adhesive.
The masks are an accessory to a plastic kit, which is not included in the package. Paints and glue are not supplied. Before buying, make sure that the set matches your kit.
