An Eduard photo-etched set in 1:48 scale for a model of the F-4E Phantom II aircraft. Thin metal parts carry detail that a plastic part cannot reach at this thickness.
Responsibility details are not available.
Photo-etch is a thin metal sheet on which small parts have been etched chemically. They are separated from the sheet, bent into shape and glued onto the model. Metal holds its shape even at a thickness that cannot be reached with a plastic part, which is why photo-etch is used everywhere the material should appear thin: seat belts, consoles, handles, grilles, covers and fine faces on the instrument panel, but also outer elements such as flaps and loops.
The F-4E is the two-seat twin-engine version of the American fighter and ground attack aircraft Phantom II. It served with the armed forces of the United States and with a number of other countries, and it can be told from the older versions by the lengthened nose section with a built-in cannon.
A photo-etched fret is drawn for one particular kit and it need not line up on another. Check in the manufacturer's instructions which F-4E model the set is cut for and which areas of the aircraft it covers.
Separate a part with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by breaking it out with your fingers: thin metal otherwise twists and is hard to straighten. Make the bend over the edge of a bending tool or between two blades, so that it is sharp along its whole length. It is glued with cyanoacrylate applied with the tip of a toothpick, as glue for polystyrene will not join metal. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and lay down a primer, or the finish peels off the smooth surface.
A photo-etched set is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery unless stated otherwise.
