Glazing masks for the cabin of the McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phantom II in 1:48 scale cover the clear areas and uncover only the framing. Target kit: Meng.
Responsibility details are not available.
Pre-cut masks for the frame of the cabin of the F-4E version. They cover the transparent parts of the clear parts, so the paint sticks only where the frame really is to be. The masks are cut for the Meng kit.
Cut for a particular shape of canopy
Cabin masks are not universal. The shape of the frame differs between the versions of the Phantom and between the kits of various manufacturers, and a mask fits only the part it was designed for. Before spraying, therefore, first merely lay the mask on dry and check that the edges agree with the frame on the molding. Only then press it down permanently.
Spraying and removing
On the curved areas of the cabin press the edges of the mask down with a fingernail or a blunt wooden stick, because it is precisely at a curve that paint runs under most often. Spray in two or three thin coats and let the paint go tacky between them. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has dried. A torn border is harder to repair than if you were to spray the whole frame again.
The F-4E was the most widespread version of the Phantom II. From the older versions it differed in its lengthened nose with a smaller radar and above all in the built-in rotary cannon under the nose, which the earlier versions lacked. It served with the US Air Force and with a number of foreign users.
