Sets of the LööK line are among the quickest ways to move the cockpit of a model up a class. The core is a pre-colored instrument panel that replaces the flat plastic part from the kit without your having to paint the individual dials by hand. This variant is cut for the F-4E Phantom II model in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but an add-on you use while building one.
The McDonnell Douglas F-4E was a two-seat fighter-bomber, the most widespread version of the Phantom II family. It differed from the earlier configurations above all in its built-in gun in the nose and a revised radar. The cockpit of the Phantom has a densely occupied instrument panel, and it is precisely that panel that is most in view with the canopy open, so improving it shows on a finished model at once.
Before gluing, check whether the panel seats into the cockpit tub without being forced; rather sand any excess plastic from the original part away carefully. It is bonded with super glue or with glue for clear parts, which leaves no haze. Do not spray primer over the colored surface of the panel and protect it with masking tape during further work. If you build the model with the canopy open, it pays to finish the rest of the cockpit tub as well, so that the improved panel does not look out of place. Flat varnish at the end evens out the reflections.
