Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, aimed according to its name at the landing gear bays of an F-4E Phantom model in 1:48 scale. It is neither a part of the model nor a decal. These are shaped masks that close the openings of the bays while the outside of the airframe is being painted, so that no paint gets into them.
Landing gear bays tend to be in a different shade from the surrounding areas and are usually painted earlier, before the fuselage is closed. When the camouflage or the top coat is then sprayed, mist from the airbrush gets into an open bay easily and settles even in places a brush cannot reach afterwards. Painting over it is very difficult, and on a finished model the bay is one of the first places everyone looks.
Paint the bays and let them cure completely, and only then cover them. Press the mask down all around the edge of the opening; on irregular shapes work in short sections. Spray away from the bay, never against its edge. After spraying, once the paint has set, lift the mask out with tweezers; if it comes stiffly, raise it in a corner first so that you do not tear the surrounding coat. The bay doors usually have the same shade on the inner side as the bay itself, so it helps to paint both at once and to let them cure together. The landing gear comes last, so that the legs and the doors are not broken during handling.
The set contains masks for painting only. The landing gear, paints and the model are not part of it.
