Hasegawa 1:48 F-4EJ Kai Super Phantom is an injection-molded plastic model of the Japanese modernized version of the legendary Phantom II fighter in service with the JASDF.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit from the Japanese maker Hasegawa in 1:48 scale. It captures the F-4EJ Kai, the modernized version of the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II built under license in Japan. The box holds its own decal sheet and, according to the manufacturer, a few small metal parts as well; paints, glue and accessories are not included.
The F-4EJ was the basic Japanese variant of the Phantom II. In the Kai version (Japanese for modified) it went through a modernization in the 1980s: it received a new radar and the ability to carry the ASM-1 and ASM-2 anti-ship missiles. These machines served with the last Japanese squadrons flying the Phantom, among them the 8th, 301st and 306th, and they were the backbone of the defense of Japanese airspace until their withdrawal. The two-seat, twin-engine machine was known for its long range and its heavy load.
Pay attention to the cockpit and to the clear canopy; masking templates are worth using for clean frames. Glue the plastic with thin cement for plastic and apply a primer before spraying with an airbrush. Fit the drop tanks and the armament only after the airframe has been painted. The two-tone Japanese camouflage schemes come out best with careful masking.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
