A plastic kit of the twin-fuselage F-82 Twin Mustang fighter in 1:48 scale. The maker is the Ukrainian Modelsvit, which concentrates on less usual types in injection molded plastic in shorter runs. The E/H designation in the name refers to two versions of the subject that can be built from the box.
The F-82 Twin Mustang was the last piston-engine fighter taken into the armament of the US Air Force. It came about by joining two fuselages derived from the P-51 Mustang with a common center wing and a common tailplane, so that the machine would gain a long range and at the same time allow two pilots to take turns on long escort flights. The F-82E version served as an escort fighter for bomber formations. The F-82H version was adapted for operation in arctic conditions in Alaska and came from the night fighter forms, on which a pod with a radar was carried under the center wing. The type stayed in service into the early 1950s, when jets replaced it.
A twin-fuselage design is sensitive to geometry, so glue the center wing and the tailplane only after you have checked them dry, and only then join them permanently. Use thin liquid cement for plastic, which is drawn into the joints. The transitions between the fuselages and the wing will call for filling and sanding. Apply gloss varnish before the decals, use a decal softener once they are on and seal the surface with varnish in the degree of gloss you want. With natural metal it pays to have a smooth base and to apply the metallic finish at the very end, because it is harder to mask.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
