A photo-etched detail set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for the carrier-borne Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat fighter in 1:48 scale. The set answers one single, and very visible, assembly: the landing flaps. Injection-molded plastic is always thicker on the flaps than reality would call for, and a molded flap also tends to be fixed solidly to the wing. The etched metal parts make it possible to show the flaps in the lowered position together with the internal structure that a plastic part would never reveal. This is not an aircraft model but an accessory for a kit you already own.
The Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat was a carrier-borne fighter of the US Navy from the early 1940s. It was powered by the Pratt and Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp radial engine, the structure was all-metal with a barrel-shaped fuselage and landing gear retracted into the fuselage by hand. The F4F-3 version still had a fixed, non-folding wing, which sets it apart from the later versions with folding wingtips. In the first period of the war the Wildcat was the main type of the carrier fighter force.
It pays off to deal with the flaps right at the start of the build, because part of the plastic usually has to be removed from the trailing edge of the wing. Work slowly, cutting layer by layer, and keep trying the fit. Separate the etched parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface and bend them in a bending tool or between two blades. Glue with cyanoacrylate, or with epoxy where you need time to adjust the position. Degrease the metal before painting and spray a primer. The inner surfaces of the flaps on American carrier aircraft usually differ in shade from the outer finish, so check the particular shade against the scheme for your model.
