A photo-etched set in 1:48 scale for adding detail to a model of the A-10C Thunderbolt II attack aircraft. Thin metal parts capture the elements injection-molded plastic cannot manage.
Responsibility details are not available.
The A-10C Thunderbolt II is an American attack aircraft intended for the close support of ground forces. The pilot sits in a bathtub of armor plate, the engines are mounted high on the sides of the rear fuselage and a 30 mm rotary cannon is built into the nose. The A-10C designation is carried by the upgraded form with a digitally equipped cockpit and multifunction displays.
The set consists of photo-etched metal parts and supplements a plastic A-10C kit in 1:48 scale. Photo-etch holds a sharp edge and a small thickness that cannot be achieved in injection-molded plastic, and it therefore suits elements that are meant to look fine. The exact list of parts and their placement on the model are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by breaking them out. Make the bends along the marked score line, best in a bender or between two rules. Wash and degrease the metal before painting, or the paint will hold badly on the smooth surface; a thin coat of primer proves its worth. They are glued with cyanoacrylate or with two-part epoxy; cement for polystyrene will not join metal.
The set suits modelers who want to take a kit beyond the contents of the box and do not mind working with small parts. You need tweezers, a sharp blade and a little patience, but the result is visible at first glance. The model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
