1:48 F4F-3 Wildcat is a set of masking templates for the glazing of the cabin from Dead Design. The Wildcat has a canopy divided by a multitude of narrow bars, and it is precisely with a frame like that that masking by hand most often fails.
Responsibility details are not available.
Pre-cut templates from the manufacturer Dead Design follow the frame of the canopy of the carrier-borne fighter Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat. They are stuck onto the clear part, taken off after spraying, and clean glass with a precisely bounded frame is left. It is not a kit nor a replacement clear part, but an accessory to a model.
The Wildcat belongs among the aircraft with a densely divided canopy: between the individual panes, strips only a fraction of a millimeter wide are left in 1:48 scale. Cutting such a network out of self-adhesive tape by hand is possible, but the result tends to be unevenly wide and the individual bars wander. The eye reveals it on a finished model at once, because the frame of the cabin is one of the first places a person looks at. A pre-cut set keeps the width of all the bars uniform.
With a dense frame it sometimes happens that paint gets under one of the narrow templates. It can be corrected, but only after the finish has fully cured. Cut a sharpened wooden stick or a toothpick off at an angle, dip it in water and wipe the excess away carefully by pulling along the bar. Reach for a hard tool only as a last resort, because glass is easily scratched and polishing a tiny area between the bars is thankless work. Prevention is simpler than repair, so spray weakly and seal the edge of the mask in advance with a thin coat of the color of the frame.
