Eduard 1:48 F4F-4 Wildcat painting mask

A painting mask from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a plastic model of the carrier-borne Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat fighter in 1:48 scale. The masks are die-cut from thin yellow kabuki film, they copy the shapes of the frames exactly and they leave no adhesive behind when removed. They replace tedious cutting by hand.

The real subject

The Grumman F4F Wildcat was an American carrier-borne fighter that formed the backbone of the naval fighter force in the first years of the Second World War in the Pacific. The F4F-4 version had folding wings for operation from aircraft carriers and six machine guns.

Use

• Transfer the parts of the mask onto the canopy frames and onto the wheels if needed.
• Paint over them with a brush or an airbrush.
• The film gives sharp edges with no creeping.
• Once dry, remove the mask carefully.
