1:48 F4F-4 Wildcat cockpit 3D PRINTED is a resin cockpit set from the Czech maker Eduard, produced by 3D printing. It replaces the plastic interior of a model of the American carrier fighter in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not an aircraft kit but an accessory set. It contains a resin cockpit assembly made by 3D printing, intended to be fitted into a plastic F4F-4 model in 1:48 scale. Printing handles details that an injection mold cannot produce: the delicate frame structure of the fuselage behind the seat, fine levers and instruments.
The Grumman F4F Wildcat was an American single-engine carrier fighter with a Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp radial engine and a landing gear cranked up into the fuselage by hand. The F4F-4 version received folding wings, which allowed considerably more machines to fit on the deck of a carrier, and an armament of six 12.7 mm machine guns. The cockpit of the Wildcat sat high and with the canopy slid back it is clearly visible.
Working with resin. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release agent and the uncured print resin residue. Cut the print supports and the casting blocks off with a saw or a sharp knife, and do not snap them. Sanding is safer wet; when sanding dry, use respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate, as cement for plastic will not help here. Apply a primer before painting. The cockpit comes into its own after a dark wash in the recesses and a light dry brush on the edges; the seat belts and the instruments are then the most striking feature of the open cockpit.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package. Before buying, check that the set fits your kit.
