A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the canopy glazing of a model of the American carrier fighter aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but an aid for painting. The set is cut for the Hobby Boss kit: Art Scale makes the same type in a version for another kit as well, so the designation is decisive when choosing and the masks cannot be swapped between kits.
The double-sided form is the main reason to reach for this set. Besides the outer frames you also get masks for the inner surface, so you can spray the inside of the canopy in the interior shade, with American machines usually a green or gray interior shade, and the frames then come across correctly even when looking into the cockpit. Compared with the older Corsairs the F4U-1D version had a raised cockpit with a markedly cleaner, almost frameless canopy, so the inside really is visible on a finished model. What remains is therefore mainly the windscreen and its framing, where double-sided masking pays off most.
Wash the transparent parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry. Stick the inner masks on first, spray the interior over, and only then do the outer masks and the camouflage shades come up. Always press the edges of the masks down and paint in thin coats: a heavy coat creeps under sooner than three thin ones.
