A precisely cast resin radial engine for the American Vought F4U-4B Corsair carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. It is an aftermarket detail part for the engine bay that replaces the simplified plastic engine from a base kit, not a stand-alone aircraft model.
The Vought F4U Corsair was an American carrier fighter with a characteristic inverted gull wing and the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine. The F4U-4 version was a capable late variant with a four-blade propeller; the F4U-4B subversion carried an armament of four 20 mm cannons and proved itself in combat in the Korean War as well.
Resin parts call for more careful work than plastic: first wash them to remove mold release residue, separate them carefully from the casting block and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Protect your airways when sanding and cutting small parts. Apply a primer before painting. The two-row radial engine comes into its own once painted in metallic shades with the cylinders lightly picked out; before the cowling is closed, check the seating depth dry.
The part is supplied as a resin accessory, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
