1:48 Fabric (Darker variant for older aircraft) is a decal sheet with the texture of fabric covering printed on it, in 1:48 scale, in a darker variant intended for older machines. It is not a kit, but a material for finishing a model.

A sheet of decals in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Peewit. It is not markings for a particular machine and it is not a kit: the decal carries the structure of fabric covering printed over its whole area, which a modeler transfers onto the areas of a model that were in reality covered with fabric. The result is a weave that shows, in the color tone of a stretched and doped covering — an effect that is practically impossible to imitate with a brush or an airbrush. The darker variant is meant for older machines, whose covering was darker and less light than on freshly finished aircraft.
Fabric covering was used in aviation on the fuselages and lifting surfaces of First World War and interwar machines, and long afterwards on rudders and ailerons even on all-metal types. Those are exactly the areas that usually look too smooth on a model. A texture decal covers them with a realistic structure without any need to sand or to scribe ribs.
Proceed as with large-area decals. The surface underneath has to be smooth and gloss so that no air is trapped anywhere. Cut a piece from the sheet slightly larger than you need, and try a paper template of the part dry first. Soak the decal, transfer it to the area and spread it from the center outwards with a soft brush. Blot the remaining water away, use a decal softener and let the decal dry for several hours without touching it — large areas dry more slowly than small insignia. Trim the surplus at the edges with a fresh blade only after it has dried, and seal the whole thing with matte or semi-matte clear.
