Replacement cannon barrels for a model of the Fairchild A-10A or A-10C Thunderbolt II in 1:48 scale. They replace the kit part at the most exposed point of the nose.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt II is a ground-attack aircraft built literally around its cannon. The 30 mm GAU-8/A rotary cannon has seven barrels and its muzzle protrudes from the nose of the fuselage, exactly where everyone looks when they view the model from the front. The A-10A and A-10C versions differ above all in cockpit equipment; the layout of the nose stays the same.
Replacement cannon barrels for the A-10 model in 1:48 scale, listed under the manufacturer's part number QB49143 in the Quickboost accessory range. The part takes the place of the barrels from the kit. The exact contents of the set and the way it is fitted are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The parts are not polystyrene, so ordinary cement for plastic models has no effect on them; glue them with cyanoacrylate. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest so that the mating face seats flat and the barrels point exactly along the axis of the fuselage. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap and let them dry. On the real aircraft the muzzles tend to be stained from firing, so a slight darkening and a flat surface look more convincing than clean metal.
The set suits modelers who are bothered by the simplified barrels on the A-10 kit. The swap is quick, does not touch the structure of the model and transforms the most closely watched point of the whole aircraft. The set contains only the parts described; the kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
