Replacement cannon barrels for a model of the A-10A or A-10C Thunderbolt II attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. They replace the part from the kit in a place the viewer sees at once.
Responsibility details are not available.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II is an American attack aircraft intended to support ground troops. The whole machine was built quite literally around its armament: in the nose it carries a seven-barrel rotary cannon of 30 millimeter caliber, whose cluster of barrels projects under the tip of the fuselage. The A-10A version and the later upgraded A-10C differ outwardly only in details, and the arrangement of the barrels stays the same.
The set brings cannon barrels in 1:48 scale as a replacement for the part out of the box. It is exactly here that a plastic part tends to be a compromise, because a cluster of thin barrels is hard to capture in a kit without thickening and without shapes merged together. The replacement part looks more delicate and shows at first glance, because nobody misses the nose of a model.
Cut the original part off with a saw or a sharp blade and level the cut face. The new barrels are not injection-molded polystyrene, so use super glue to bond them. Cut surplus material off a little away from the part and sand the rest carefully, so that the thin barrels do not bend.
Before painting, wash the surface in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry through. The metal look of the barrels is done well in a dark graphite shade or in a metallic paint polished with a cloth; light soiling with exhaust from the muzzle backward suits it at the end.
The set suits the modeler who builds the A-10 in a larger scale and wants the nose well handled. Fitting it is a matter of one cut and a moment's work. The aircraft model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
