The Fairey Gannet was a British carrier-based anti-submarine aircraft from the 1950s. It was powered by the Armstrong Siddeley Double Mamba turboprop unit, made up of two engines coupled through a gearbox to two coaxial contra-rotating propellers. The pilot could shut one half of the unit down in flight and save fuel on long patrols without being troubled by asymmetric thrust. The aircraft had a folding wing and tricycle landing gear with a nose wheel. The AS.1 and the later AS.4 differed in the power of the unit and in their equipment.
