The cockpit of a two-seat carrier-based fighter is on show on the model through the long glazed canopy along its whole length, so nothing there can be glossed over. The SPACE range therefore relies on decals printed in layers: they have color and raised relief, so once applied they look like carefully painted and shaded detail. The set is neither a model nor a part of one, it is an add-on for a kit in 1:48 scale.
The Fulmar was a British carrier-based fighter of the Fleet Air Arm from the early part of World War II. Unlike the land-based fighters of the day it had a crew of two, because over the sea the mother ship was hard to find without a navigator. It was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine and its armament was machine guns in the wing. It was neither fast nor agile, but it had long range and endurance, which is why it did key work protecting convoys in the Mediterranean and ranked among the most successful types of the Fleet Air Arm.
Spray the interior with the base color first and polish the areas meant for the decals with a gloss varnish. Keep the parts dry and degreased, or the film will lift at the edge. Seat the decal on a wet surface and press it down with a cotton swab from the center toward the edges, so that no air is left under it. In a two-seat cockpit it pays to do the rear station first, which is harder to reach once the fuselage is together. Flattening at the end will bring the sheen into line with the surroundings.
