The set replaces the inside of the cockpit of a model with cast parts complemented by color three-dimensional decals with the artwork of the instruments and the lettering. It is a more extensive accessory for a kit rather than a stand-alone model. The set is cut for the Hobby Boss kit in 1:48 scale; a version of the same set for a kit from another maker also exists, so when ordering check your own release. The number of parts and the full contents of the package are given in the enclosed instructions.
The FB-111 is the bomber version of the two-seat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing, derived from the tactical variant and fitted with a longer wing and strengthened landing gear. The crew sits side by side in a shared compartment, so the cockpit is wide and clearly visible once opened. It is precisely this shape that decides the build: simplified plastic parts are spotted at first glance in a cockpit this exposed, whereas on aircraft with a narrow tandem cockpit it would matter far less.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent so that no mold release agent is left on them and the paint holds. Cut the casting blocks off rather than breaking them, and level the mating surfaces on abrasive paper laid on a flat board. Protect your airways when sanding resin. Glue with cyanoacrylate, as the gel consistency gives time to seat things. Try the cockpit dry in half the fuselage and remove any overhang before you start painting. Lay the three-dimensional decals onto a smooth, painted base and follow the instructions, because a thicker layer reacts to a decal softener differently from an ordinary decal. Once the fuselage is closed, check the balance of the model.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit of the aircraft. Paints, glue and the model itself are not included in the package.
