A replacement exhaust for a model of the Fieseler Fi 156C Storch liaison aircraft in 1:48 scale. It takes the place of the solid plastic part from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Fieseler Fi 156 Storch is a German liaison and observation aircraft from the time of the Second World War. It became famous for needing a very short stretch of ground to take off and land: it had slots along the whole leading edge, large flaps and long landing gear legs with plenty of travel that absorbed a hard touchdown. It flew as a courier and observation machine and for casualty evacuation. The letter C in the designation belongs to the production series from which most of the aircraft built came.
The exhaust is a small thing the viewer always has in sight, and at the same time a part where injection-molded plastic runs into its limits. The opening should be hollow and the wall thin, but the plastic part is usually solid and drilling it out in 1:48 scale is tricky. The replacement part goes in instead of the kit part and offers a shape and a surface that can then be painted convincingly.
The parts are not polystyrene, so plastic cement will not hold on them; use super glue. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest flat so that the part seats properly. Wash it in lukewarm soapy water and degrease it before painting, otherwise the paint will not last on the smooth surface. The exhaust suits dark shades of scaled metal and rust set off with dry pigment. Cut the original plastic exhaust away and level the area, and only then try the new part dry.
For modelers building the Storch in 1:48 scale who want a visible detail taken beyond the level of the kit. The work is fiddly and calls for patience, a sharp blade and tweezers. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
