A fire helmet in 1:48 scale is a small accessory for figures – a separate piece of headgear for civilian and emergency scenes in a diorama.
Responsibility details are not available.
This accessory is neither a model nor a figure but a separate piece of headgear in 1:48 scale. It is fitted onto a figure's head, or else laid into a scene as a set-aside item of equipment – on the seat of a vehicle, on the ground beside a pump or on the frame of a ladder. It is precisely such small things that give a diorama a story.
Fire helmets differ conspicuously from military ones in shape: they tend to have a pronounced crest over the crown and a widened brim, which leads water away and protects the neck and the shoulders. This shape has held with fire brigades since the nineteenth century and in various forms it survived far into the twentieth. Check the particular country and pattern of the helmet on the packaging.
Cut the casting off the casting block, level the cut and sand it over gently. Before painting, wash the part in lukewarm water with a detergent because of residues of the release agent. Glue the helmet with super glue; if you are replacing a figure's original headgear, first level the crown of the head, so that the helmet seats with no gap. Glossily painted metal or brass looks best over a smooth filler and is sprayed last – metallic paints are hard to mask. A gentle accentuation of the edges with a dry brush will draw out the crest and the edge of the brim.
This is an accessory for figures, not a kit on its own. Paints, glue and the figure are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
