1:48 Firefly Hessian tape camo net is a six-part resin set of camouflage made of jute strips for the British Firefly tank in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
Six resin castings imitate the camouflage of jute strips that British crews tied to the armor. It is not a textile but solid castings with modeled texture, which are simply seated onto a finished model. The maker is Black Dog.
The Firefly was a British conversion of the American medium tank into which the 17-pounder anti-tank gun was successfully fitted. The long barrel made it the most effective Allied tank in Normandy and at the same time a priority target for German gunners. Crews therefore wrapped the barrel and the hull in strips of jute and in nets so that the silhouette would be broken up and the vehicle would blend from a distance into a hedgerow or a copse.
The texture of the fabric is fine, so do not flood it with a heavy coat of primer. It comes out best when you undercoat it dark and lay the light shade on from above, as if the sun were falling on it. The transition between the jute and the armor benefits from a thin darkening that separates the two different materials. A dry brush drawn along the fibers supplies the rest of the depth.
