An injection-molded plastic model of the British Fairey Firefly Mk.I carrier aircraft in 1:48 scale. The subtitle Foreign Post War Service points to the focus of the edition on the postwar foreign service of this type, that is, machines operated by naval air arms outside Great Britain. The model captures the characteristic two-seat aircraft with a large engine and radiators in the leading edge of the wing.
The Fairey Firefly was a British two-seat carrier fighter and reconnaissance aircraft of the Second World War. The Mk.I version was its original combat variant; it carried a pilot at the front and an observer and radio operator at the rear and was armed with cannon in the wings. After the war the Firefly served for a number of years with the naval air arms of several countries, where it carried out combat as well as training duties, and some machines took part in later conflicts too. Its robust structure and good range made it a versatile carrier aircraft.
Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and fill and sand the fuselage and wing joints as needed. It pays to paint and shade the pilot's cockpit and the rear cockpit before the fuselage is closed up. Apply a primer before painting and spray in thin layers with an airbrush; a naval finish will reward picking out the panels and a fine shading wash. Study the instructions for the particular variant of the stores under the wings carefully.
