The package holds photo-etched metal parts for refining the plastic kit of the German 20 mm Flak 38 light antiaircraft gun in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the weapon - it is an aftermarket accessory from the Czech maker Hauler for the ACE kit, which has to be obtained separately.
The Flak 38 was the improved successor to an older light antiaircraft gun of the same 20 mm caliber. Changes in its design brought it a higher rate of fire, and the weapon was used on a field mount, on the beds of vehicles and on watercraft. The model consists predominantly of a slender structure: tubular frames, pierced gratings, seats, shields, sighting equipment and magazine holders.
The most demanding thing about a photo-etched weapon is not the gluing but the painting. The coat has to be as thin as possible, or it will fill the pressings and the meshes and all the work will disappear. Proceed by spraying the whole assembled gun with a thin coat of primer for metal, then the base shade, and add the depth only at the end: a dark wash runs into the hollows and light drybrushing in a lighter shade pulls out the edges of the frames and the gratings. The barrel and the controls can be suggested with a very fine rub of graphite or metallic pigment. Do not forget to degrease the metal before painting.
