Responsibility details are not available.
A set of masks by Eduard in 1:48 scale intended for spraying US national insignia onto a model of the FM-1 Wildcat carrier fighter. It is not a kit and it is not a set of masks for the glazing, but an accessory for those who want the insignia sprayed in paint rather than carried over by a decal. Sprayed insignia behave like the rest of the surface: they have no glossy edge of carrier film and they do not lift across scribed lines or rivets. The difference shows mainly on models painted matte.
The FM-1 Wildcat was the version of the Grumman F4F carrier fighter built under license by the Eastern Aircraft division of General Motors. It had four machine guns instead of six and a larger ammunition supply, which suited operations from small escort carriers. The US Navy at that time used the insignia in the form of a star in a circular field, which was modified several times during the war, among other things by the addition of side bars.
The surface has to be smooth, ideally sprayed with a gloss varnish, so that the edges come out sharp. Seat the masks and press the edges down with a blunt tool. Apply the paint in several very thin coats and spray perpendicular to the surface, not at an angle under the edge. Lift the mask off shortly after the paint has flashed off. With multi-color insignia work from the lighter color to the darker one.
