About product

A resin engine for the FM-2 Wildcat 1:48 (Quickboost)

This set from Quickboost is not a model of an aircraft but a resin casting of a radial engine, with which you replace the simplified engine on a kit of the FM-2 Wildcat carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. The detailed casting lets the model be built with the engine section exposed and the arrangement of the cylinders shown.

The real subject

The FM-2 was a lighter version of the Grumman Wildcat carrier fighter with modified power output, built for escort carriers. An air-cooled single-row Wright radial powered it; against earlier Wildcats it also received a taller rudder. The machine served above all with the US Navy during the Second World War.

Tips for working with resin

Wash the casting in water with detergent to remove the mold release agent. Separate it from the casting block by cutting and attach it with cyanoacrylate; cement for plastic does not hold on resin. The engine stands out once the shadows are brought out and a dry brush is used; protect your airways when sanding.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the FM-2 Wildcat in 1:48
  • Those interested in an exposed engine section
  • Those who want faithful cylinders and plumbing
  • Builders used to resin accessories

It is supplied as an unpainted set of resin parts. Paints, glue and the base model are not included in the package.
