The set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard of the LööK range brings a finished colored instrument panel for a model of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-7 in 1:48 scale. The most laborious part of building the cockpit, that is painting the individual dials and their labels by hand, is dealt with in advance. The modeler seats the part in place and gains a detail that would take several evenings to come about by hand.
The cockpit everybody looks at
The Fw 190 has a cockpit that is fairly well visible even once the canopy has been closed, so the investment in the instrument panel shows. A finished colored part also holds a consistent level of detail, which is reached by painting by hand in this scale only with difficulty.
The Fw 190A-7 is one of the later forms of the A series of the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighter with the BMW 801 radial engine. It came about at the turn of 1943 and 1944 as a transitional type between the A-6 and A-8 versions and, against the older machines, it was given a stronger fuselage armament in the form of MG 131 machine guns in place of the lighter MG 17, which showed in the shape of the cover ahead of the cockpit as well. The series built was fairly short, so the A-7 belongs among the less usual variants and modelers choose it for precisely that reason.
Try the part dry first, because a finished panel tends to be somewhat thicker than the plastic original and the seating in the cockpit may want a small adjustment. Do not repaint the colored surface and keep it away from cyanoacrylate glue, whose fumes make gloss matte. The dials will benefit from a drop of gloss varnish, which imitates the glass of the instruments.
