This resin set from the Quickboost brand of the Czech manufacturer Aires brings faithfully cast ground protective covers (F.O.D., that is covers against the entry of foreign objects) for a model of the American Lockheed F-104 Starfighter fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for more experienced modelers, fitted over the intake and the exhaust nozzle of a parked aircraft.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was an American single-engine supersonic fighter with a markedly thin and short wing, which earned it the nickname missile with a man in it. It excelled in speed and rate of climb and served with the US Air Force and with a number of allied countries. Protective covers for the intake and the nozzle were fitted on the real machines while they were parked on the ground, so that dirt or small objects could not get into the engine.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off carefully and sand the cut faces with respiratory protection. The covers can be fixed to the model permanently with cyanoacrylate glue, or merely laid in place so that they can be taken off.
The set is supplied as a resin part, unassembled and unpainted. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for a plastic kit. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
