1:48 Fw 190A-5 ADVANCED

The real subject

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was one of the mainstays of the German fighter force in the Second World War. It was a single-seat machine with a wide landing gear track, which proved itself on improvised strips, and with a good view from the cockpit. The A-5 version differs from the previous one in that the engine mounting was moved forward; the small change in length evened out the balance of the aircraft after further equipment had been added. The result was one of the most widespread versions, committed both to the defense of airspace and to fighter-bombing.

What the accessory set is for

The accessory set replaces or supplements parts of the kit where standard plastic runs up against its limits: in the cockpit, in the landing gear bays and on small surface features. These are exactly the places that carry the most detail on a finished model, and they are also the most visible. The set is tied to a particular kit in 1:48 scale, so check before buying that it will fit yours.

Tips for working with the set

First read the instructions right through and find which original parts are to be removed; do that before you glue anything. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, or the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. Choose the right glue and the exact procedure according to the maker's instructions, because these differ on accessory parts depending on the material. Small parts are better painted before they are separated from the rest of the material.
