The fifth design from the numbered range of gates by the manufacturer Vertigo Miniatures, intended for dioramas and vignettes in 1:48 scale. The accessory is used when building the setting around a model. In itself it is not a model of a vehicle or a kit but an item that gives a scene an architectural frame.
A gate does not have to be open and passable. A closed gate shuts a scene off and creates the impression of a space continuing behind it, out of the viewer's sight. A half-open one, by contrast, leads the eye inside and suits you when you want to show what is going on in the yard. A damaged gate hanging off its hinges says at once that the scene captures the aftermath of some event. The decision falls before you start gluing, because it affects the layout of the terrain as well.
Clean and degrease the item before painting. Tune it in color with its surroundings: the gate, the wall and the terrain should share a common tone, otherwise it will read as a foreign body. Disguise the transition between the gate and the base with terrain material, grit or grass, so that the structure does not stand on an edge. Keep the weathering restrained, because in a small scale it quickly covers the relief. Always try the assembly dry before the final gluing.
