A set of photo-etched metal parts for the plastic kit of the Soviet GAZ-AAA truck in 1:48 scale. It is not a model or a complete kit - the parts are built into the Unimodels kit. It is on trucks in particular that detailing pays off: thin plates, grab handles, running boards and brackets are all in view here, because no armor or bodywork covers them.
The GAZ-AAA was a three-axle truck with 6x4 drive, derived from the lighter two-axle GAZ-AA type built in the Soviet Union to a licensed American design. Three axles and dual wheels at the rear improved mobility and load capacity, so the vehicle served not only as an ordinary truck but also as a chassis for all sorts of bodies - workshops, tankers, signals and specialized vehicles. It was one of the most widespread Soviet trucks of the 1930s and 1940s.
Metal behaves differently from plastic and forgives less. Before you start gluing, go through the whole instruction sheet and think through the order of work - photo-etched parts are often built into subassemblies that you will not take apart later. Keep the fret together as long as possible and cut the individual parts off it only just before use, so that they do not get lost. Degreasing with alcohol and a primer for metal are compulsory, or the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. It is bonded with super glue: put a drop on a piece of kitchen foil and carry it over with a piece of wire, as dosing from the bottle straight onto a part is too coarse at these sizes.
The set is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
