1:48 General-Motors FM-1 Wildcat LooK is a 3D printed Eduard instrument panel for a model of the license-built Wildcat in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set replaces the instrument panel from the kit with a finished 3D printed part. The instruments have real depth, the rendering of the scales is printed and the builder avoids the finest brushwork on the whole model. The use is simple: the original panel out, the new part seated and the shade of the surroundings tuned. The package does not contain the kit of the aircraft; it is an accessory for a part-built model.
The Wildcat was the first American carrier fighter that could stand up to Japanese superiority in the Pacific. The FM-1 designation is carried by machines built under license by the General Motors company after the original manufacturer moved its capacity to the successor type. The license version grew out of the earlier variant with two fewer machine guns, which saved weight and freed up room for a larger supply of ammunition. It was machines like these that served on the escort carriers which protected convoys and hunted submarines in the Atlantic, where a short takeoff from a small deck suited the Wildcat better than heavier types.
The cockpit of the Wildcat is fairly cramped, so before gluing it in check that the panel does not prevent the seat or the canopy frame from seating. Sand a 3D print only lightly and dry, protecting your airways. Choose the interior shade so that the panel does not stand out as a foreign feature, and leave the gloss of the dials untouched.
