Engine deck grilles for the King Tiger in the version with armor plate covers, 1:48 scale from Artwox Model combine resin and photo-etched parts. Intended for the Tamiya 32536 kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The package deals with the upper surface of the engine compartment of the Tiger II heavy tank in the variant in which the cooling openings were covered from above by armor plates. The name states that the set contains both resin castings and photo-etched sheets; combining the two technologies makes it possible to join the mass of the protective plates with the fine structure of the mesh beneath them. The set is intended for the Tamiya 32536 kit.
The cooling openings were among the vulnerable places on German tanks. Fire from above, aerial weapons and infantry with explosives all aimed exactly there, and so grilled protective panels began to be fitted over the engine surfaces of the later machines. For a model that means a fundamental change in the look of the rear: instead of a deep view into the engine compartment there is a layered surface with pronounced shadows.
First wash the resin castings in warm soapy water so that no mold release agent is left on them, and cut the casting gates off with a saw. The photo-etched sheets need a flat support and cyanoacrylate glue in a minimal dose. Prime the whole assembly, otherwise the paint does not hold evenly on a combination of metal and resin. The shadows between the layers stand out after a dark wash.
It is a modification of an existing kit, not a model of a vehicle on its own.
