FuG 220 Lichtenstein SN-2, 1:48 — a turned brass radar antenna by MASTER, an extra part for a model of a German night fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
FuG 220 Lichtenstein SN-2 is a set of precisely turned metal (brass) antennas in 1:48 scale from MASTER, a manufacturer specializing in turned metal add-ons — antennas, barrels and pitot tubes. It is not a stand-alone model, but an extra part for a model of a German night fighter. The set contains turned brass antennas and a photo-etched fret with small parts.
The FuG 220 Lichtenstein SN-2 was the onboard radar antenna of German Second World War night fighters, such as the Messerschmitt Bf 110 or the Junkers Ju 88. The characteristic antler-shaped (mesh) antenna protruded from the aircraft's nose and let the crew locate targets in the dark.
Why metal: the plastic antenna in the kit is thick, coarse and fragile, and snaps off easily. The turned brass version, by contrast, is thin, accurate and strong — it stands up to handling and looks like the real thing. Cut off the original plastic parts, drill holes in the fret with a fine bit (e.g. 0.5 mm), and glue the metal parts in place with cyanoacrylate glue; stronger joints can be soldered. Degrease the part before painting.
This is an add-on for a model, not a stand-alone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
