An injection-molded plastic kit of the German self-propelled heavy antitank gun Nashorn in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Tamiya. The model faithfully captures the running gear, the sides of the hull and the fighting compartment with the large gun, whose mount allows traverse and elevation. The package holds a figure and two marking options for the Eastern Front. Thanks to the 1:48 scale it is a compact yet detailed model.
The Nashorn (rhinoceros) was a German self-propelled heavy tank destroyer of the Second World War. It came about as a reaction to the strong Soviet tanks and carried an 8.8 cm gun with a very long barrel, which could destroy armored hardware at a great distance. The gun was placed in an open superstructure on a common chassis derived from the Panzer III and IV tanks. Production began in 1943; the original designation Hornisse was later changed to Nashorn. The weak armor of the superstructure made the vehicle above all a fire support weapon from concealment, not an assault tank.
Finish and paint the running gear and the open fighting compartment before the hull is closed, so that details do not stay hidden. Use liquid cement for plastic and work in subassemblies. Apply a primer before finishing and spray with an airbrush, and support the long barrel while gluing. You will bring the open superstructure and the running gear up with washes into the recesses and with pigments for mud and dust effects; use the figure to bring the scene to life.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
