About product

Cockpit bulkhead for the Gloster Gladiator 1:48, a resin accessory

A resin cockpit bulkhead for the British Gloster Gladiator fighter biplane in 1:48 scale from Quickboost (the range of simple resin parts from Aires). The faithfully cast bulkhead completes the interior of the cockpit with fine texture and definition that the simplified plastic of a kit does not offer. It is not a model of an aircraft but a detail part that will enrich the view into an open cockpit.

The real subject

The Gloster Gladiator was the last British fighter biplane taken into service with the Royal Air Force. A Bristol Mercury radial engine powered it, and despite its outdated concept it took part in the fighting at the beginning of the Second World War, among other places in the defense of Malta. The open cockpit of a biplane leaves the interior clearly visible, so details such as the bulkhead are worth refining.

Fitting and tips

These are castings in resin. Wash them in lukewarm water with detergent and rid them of the remains of mold release agent, otherwise neither paint nor glue will hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw away from the part and sand the surfaces. They are glued with cyanoacrylate, not with cement for plastic. Protect your airways when sanding.

Who it is for

  • Paint the bulkhead separately and seat it in the cockpit in the correct position.
  • Bring the definition out with a dry brush and a fine wash.
  • Level the seating surface after cutting the casting block off.

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a resin set for more experienced modelers. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. It is a resin accessory, a bulkhead for the cockpit. You need your own Gladiator kit in 1:48 scale for it.

The open cockpit of a biplane leaves the interior on view. A resin bulkhead has finer definition than plastic and brings the view into the cabin to life.

With cyanoacrylate or with epoxy. Cement for plastic does not hold on resin.
