The NATO Tiger Meet is a regular gathering of squadrons that have a tiger or another big cat in their badge. The participating units traditionally bring machines in striking occasional finishes, which are painted over again once the event is done; it is exactly these machines that are the most common subject of decal sets. Occasional finishes tend to be made up of large fields of color, which on a model form several layers of decals side by side. Once they are dry the surface stays uneven: the carrier film catches the light differently from the surrounding paint and the edges can be felt. The answer is a final overcoat. First clear the model of adhesive residues with a damp cloth and let it rest for a day, then apply a thin layer of clear varnish in the degree of sheen you want on the finished model. Apply two very light layers rather than one generous one, otherwise the varnish piles up at the edges of the decals and makes a rim. With a colorful scheme a semi-matte is usually more suitable, because too matte a surface needlessly grays the colors down.
