A more extensive resin set for a model of the carrier transport aircraft C-2 A Greyhound in 1:48 scale. According to the name it holds the landing gears as well as the gear bays, that is two parts of a model which on large aircraft tend to be the most simplified in injection-molded plastic. It is not a kit of the aircraft; the set is fitted into a plastic model you already have. The accessory is prepared for the Kinetic kit.

The real subject

The Grumman C-2 A Greyhound was a carrier transport aircraft of the US Navy, derived from the patrol and control machine E-2 Hawkeye. It shared with it the upper wing with folding tips and the pair of turboprop engines, but it got a wider fuselage with a cargo ramp in the rear. For decades it provided the link between aircraft carriers and the mainland, carrying spare parts, mail and people, that is the inconspicuous logistics without which no battle group can do. The landing gear of such a machine is robust: it has to stand up to a catapult launch and to an arrested landing.

Usage tips

• Try the seating of the bays dry before you glue anything; the opening in the plastic usually has to be altered.
• Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, cut the casting blocks away with a saw.
• Glue the gear legs with cyanoacrylate glue and watch both their upright stance and the track.
• Paint the bays and bring them out with a wash before the wing and the fuselage are closed.
• Sand wet and with your airways protected.
